Graduation on the TV channel “KYIV24”! The participants of the special course “Camera operator’s work” successfully completed their studies and received certificates
During the intensive course, launched by the TV channel “KYIV24” together with the Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Training of Television, Radio Broadcasting and Press Workers (UTRPI), the participants attended theoretical classes and practiced under the guidance of experienced specialists. Now they are waiting for an internship at a TV channel.
Ten girls, who were selected from more than 80 applicants, began studying at the special course “Camera operator’s work”, launched by the TV channel “KYIV24” together with the UTRPI. They attended theoretical classes and diligently learned to apply the acquired knowledge in practice under the guidance of the Institute’s teachers and experienced TV camera operators of the TV channel “KYIV24”. The training turned out to be interesting and extremely rich, thanks to the emphasis on practice.
And finally – the long-awaited graduation! TV channel “KYIV24” organized a real holiday for the students! Certificates of completion of the special course were ceremoniously handed to the girls in the newsroom of the TV channel.
During the ceremony, the Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Training of Television, Radio Broadcasting and Press Workers, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Secretary of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Honored Journalist of Ukraine Glib Golovchenko addressed the graduates: “Today, I am very happy to congratulate all of you on the successful completion of the course. This is the first time that the UTRPI has formed an all-female group for the course of camera operator’s mastery, and I am sincerely grateful to all of you for the fact that this course turned out to be successful. I am also grateful to you for the fact that you boldly break the stereotype that the operator’s work is a male profession. Every year more and more women get behind the camera and we know that women can shoot just as well as men. Your group is the best proof of that! I wish you all success and let each of you shoot your most desired material as soon as possible – the material about our victory!”.
Host Iryna Korol talked live with graduates and teachers about the nuances of the profession, what the girls learned at the special course and their professional plans for the future.
Mykhailo Lebedev, curator of the cameramanship course at the UTRPI, noted that the girls were very diligent and achieved considerable success in mastering the skills of working with a video camera.
“I have been teaching for 32 years, and I have something to compare with. Forty years ago, a female video engineer told me: “You have such an interesting job, profession, but these cameras are so heavy!” Now they have become small, compact, and therefore more convenient to work with. It`s very attractive, interesting and promising. The students are well done, they showed themselves excellently in their studies and during the first practical work. I would really like them to join the team of the TV channel and open the world in a new way,” he said.
Yevhen Miglazov, the chief TV cameraman, became the curator of the educational process from the TV channel “KYIV24”. He and his colleagues conducted practical classes and monitored the success of each participant. Yevhen will continue to accompany and help the girls, who will soon pick up professional video cameras and shoot their first reports for the TV channel, because the trainees have an internship at “KYIV24” ahead of them.
Due to the full-scale war in Ukraine, the television media faced a shortage of qualified personnel, as many experienced male specialists joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “KYIV24” responded to the request promptly and creatively. The TV channel decided not only to teach the girls basic television skills, but also to employ the participants of the course who will show themselves best.
