The Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Training of Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Press Workers has completed the training course “Communications in the Field of Gender Equality” for employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Maria Dmytriieva, the course curator, deputy head of the department, national gender issues expert, dedicated the final online lecture to analyzing participants’ responses to a questionnaire designed to assess their knowledge acquisition. Completing the test assignments contributed to reinforcing the material covered in the training course.
During the lecture, particular attention was paid to the appropriateness of using linguistic tools, such as feminatives, to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men, thereby achieving a more accurate reflection of reality.
Analyzing responses to questions about the type of society we live in—patriarchal, post-patriarchal, or matriarchal; the goals of the first wave of the feminist movement; and the definitions of discrimination, misogyny, and violence, Maria Dmytriieva shared numerous intriguing facts from the history of societal development and sociological research.
The discussion also covered the fundamentals of national and international legal frameworks for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men. Key documents such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and UN Security Council Resolution 1325, “Women, Peace, and Security,” were highlighted for their significance.
Participants examined how gender issues are reflected in Ukrainian media, advertising, and communication strategies. They successfully completed test assignments and received state-standard certificates.
